“Friar Supplier”?

“The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal” are the gray robed Friars and Sisters living and ministering to the poor in New York, Newark, New Mexico, London and Honduras.  They run homeless shelters, food pantries, youth programs, clinics, educational programs, parish missions, retreats, conferences, and anything that basically needs doing.  Chances are you’ve met some of them; Fr. Benedict Groeschel, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, Fr. Mariusz Koch, Sr. Lucille, Sr Clare are  few of the fast growing community of “Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal.”

“The Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal” take a vow of poverty, which means they rely totally on “God’s Providence” to supply them with all their needs.  God works through people like YOU and I to provide the Friars and Sisters with their very basic needs.

The Holy Spirit has inspired a group of us here on Long Island to help provide the Franciscan community with food and groceries.  We call ourselves “THE FRIAR SUPPLIERS.”

Here’s how it works:

On the first of the month we send you a newsletter reminding you to send your donation of whatever you wish to contribute as a “Friar Supplier” to our treasurers:

The check should be made out to “Friar Suppliers”” and received by the 15^th of each month.

Next, we call the Friars and Sisters and get a grocery list from them.  Charlie shops for the food in The Restaurant Depot, B.J.’s, Pathmark, etc.  We buy all food in bulk and large quantities to get the best price available.  With the help of volunteers, we sort it, repack it, label it and deliver it all to the Friars and Sisters.

The following month you receive the monthly newsletter thanking you for your donation. We also inform you of any Franciscan news and worthwhile events that may be coming up.  Each month we enclose an index card for you to fill out with your prayer requests. The newsletter is also a reminder to send your next donation and prayer requests before the 15^th of the month.

Please pray and ask the Holy Spirit if He is calling you to be a “Friar Supplier.”  We are asking you to make a commitment to sending a donation each month of  whatever amount you care to give.  The Friars and sisters are sincerely grateful for whatever we give them and they’ve assured us of their prayers!! The Friars and Sisters prayers are very powerful and they will pray for your needs.

Remember, your help will help the community of “Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Renewal” to grow. If people like you help the Franciscans, they’ll be able to open their doors to more vocations, which we need so much in our church today.
